Guest:  Dr. Sheila Roth

Dr. Sheila Gillespie Roth (PhD, LCSW) serves as Chair in the Department of Social Work at Carlow University (Pittsburgh, PA).

Dr. Roth is a licensed clinical social worker in Pennsylvania and is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Her areas of expertise are Crisis Intervention and Trauma.

She is the program counselor for the Center for Emergency Medicine of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and member of the Pittsburgh Critical Incident Stress Management Team and serves on the advisory board.

Season 3, Episode #2: Trauma & Healing

The COVID pandemic, current political climate and the tragic events at the US Capitol have caused great distress to humanity, our nation and the global community.

Per the American Psychiatric Association (APA) recent poll suggests that 62% of Americans feel more anxious than they did at this time last year. This marks a sizable increase over APA polls of the past three (3) years in which the percentage ranged between 32% and 39%.

New APA Poll Shows Surge in Anxiety Among Americans Top Causes Are Safety, COVID-19, Health, Gun Violence, and the Upcoming Election. When asked what made individuals extremely or somewhat anxious, Americans related that keeping themselves and their family safe was the primary concern. ***

On today’s podcast, we have three (3) knowledgeable women and thought leaders that will share info about trauma, its effects and healing elements that may help to restore the connection of mind, body and spirit. Each brings vast expertise in their respective fields.

Season 3, Episode #3: Make Art 

Guest: Amanda Lee

Amanda Lee is not only an artist she is a highly successful businesswoman, social entrepreneur and modern-day patron of young female artists.

Since she could hold a crayon, Amanda has engaged in some art form. She initially learned about art from her grandmother who she fondly called “Nana”. Her first paintings were on trees. The artist still likes to use natural elements in my creative works. Murals were her initial means of income as an artist.

As a business owner of a art and glassware studio, her first hand-painted glasses reflected the Pittsburgh skyline and words like “Yinzers” which is definitely a ‘Burgh thing. “Hand painted with love and maybe a little wine” is her mantra and reflects her authentic spirit and energy.

Amanda’s passion is collage art. Her current project is entitled: 17 Portraits and includes: collage images of significant individuals in her life. She began this project by creating an inspiring piece of her art mentor, Jay.

Her glassware is now available for on-line purchase in all 50 states and 30 countries globally.

Season 3, Episode #4: Drum Circles

Guest: Jim Donovan

Jim Donovan M.Ed. is a professional musician, trainer, Assistant Professor and Director of Music and Wellness at Saint Francis University and TEDx speaker. His TEDx Talk How to Trick Your Brain into Falling Asleep has been viewed over 4 million times to date.

His mission is to share the healing power of music through education and performance.

He specializes in placing music and wellness programs in organizations that focus on individuals with disabilities and recovering from addiction.

Jim performs with his band Sun King Warriors and was a founding member of the multi-platinum band Rusted Root. There he co-wrote the song Send Me on My Way featured in the movies Ice Age, Matilda and the Netflix Film, Holiday in the Wild. It also became the first song on Mars where it “woke up” NASA’s Mars Rover.

Having presented over 3000+ rhythm-based programs since 1999, Donovan works internationally facilitating music and wellness events with a wide variety of populations including corporate, university, people with disabilities, and people recovering from addiction.

Season 3, Episode #5: Child Safety
Guest: Judy Bannon

With the onset of COVID-19, child safety has been a primary concern for most parents, families and educators, not to mention organizations that serve children. Our guest this episode is Judy Bannon, founder and executive director of the Cribs for Kids organization.
 
Judy has 22 years experience. Her organization has helped two (2) million families, distributed one (1) million cribs nationally, 100,000 cribs throughout Western PA, and collaborates with 1,800 partnering agencies that serve in the best interest of infants and children.
 
Also, Judy and her daughter, Jennifer Bannon, co-authored a book entitled: "Five Ladies And A Forklift". The book reflects the founding of the organization and includes inspiring pages about leadership and social impact initiatives.

Season 3, Episode #6: It's in the Stars

Since ancient times, humans have looked to the heavens for guidance. Astrology is considered a type of prophecy that involves the forecasting of earthly and human events through the observation and interpretation of the Sun, the Moon, the Stars and the Planets. Astrologists believe that the positions of the Sun, moon, stars and planets at the time of a person’s birth have a direct influence on that person’s character. The alignment is thought to affect a person’s destiny and life.

Our guest today is an astrologist, and she plans to share her experiences and use my birth chart as an example to inform our audience. Linda Elias Watson is the owner and creator of Soul Guide Astrology. She is a member of the American Federation of Astrologers. She provides readings that offer insight and guidance to better help individuals find their focus and move forward with their spiritual journey.
